AGENDA OF THE “SPECIAL MEETING”

1-21-08hdp.jpgHaving spent some 40-years in the
sport of Drag Racing, I had the opportunity to work closely with Graham
Light on many levels--from car owner to race official. I have been
involved with his decisions at the starting-line as well as in the
control tower. And, at all levels I have found him to be a man of the
highest integrity, not only in the forefront but behind the scenes as
well. And, no, I am not an NHRA hack---far from it. In fact, if
anything, the majority of my years in the sport, I have been a "fly in
their ointment," to put it lightly.
S
o, I would advise those like Mr. Elms to present hard facts to back up
their statements before they choose to abuse their right to free speech
and assassinate someone's character. - John Durbin

– BACK TO THE FUTURE - FUNNY CAR THROWBACKS

I am from Houma, La. and followed Leanard Hughes, Paul Candies, and
Mark Oswald throughout my younger years.  I used to hang around their
racing shop asking questions and just watching the guys build their
toys with smiles and phrases such as "big pully goes fast for 'Gators"
while mounting the blower pulley for a motor for the Gator Nats.  My
mom would haul me to Southland drags and watch them run.  They were
true champions!  All of the throwback cars in this article look great,
and If I was a sponsor I would really think hard about making that
happen. The picture' truly do wonders for representing their current
sponsors while capturing the classic rides of the past. Great show! -

It's a shame that someone with Phil's ability and talent that no team
has picked him up for 2008...It'$ too bad when you have to bring along
$pon$or$hip money to $how your talent. - Frank Kaylor

– AS WE SEE IT – LEAD, FOLLOW OR GET OUT OF THE WAY

As a SEMA/SFI
chassis builder/committee member since 1968, who was along with Don Long, Dave
Uyehara, and Marc Rowe "dumped" from the committee, have to agree
that some supposed leaders should just get out of the way.

The heading I clicked on said "Tell us what you think".

I THINK: I'd like to puke. - Bob Meyer

1-21-08hdp.jpgWell, well, well.  Nobody prints my stuff very often but that is
OK, the truth hurts.  I had no preference
concerning NHRA or HDP. My concern, and I voiced it many times, was what would
happen to that 120+ million.  Every
damned dime of it should have gone back into Drag Racing.  It seems to me that the shareholders read
many emails. I would bet my dollar on the final decision not having nothing to
do with economy, but the integrity of Compton
and Light. Those two remind me of dirty politicians, and we already know voting
for a politician is nothing more than choosing the less abrasive of all the
evils. - Mark Elms

TOMMY JOHNSON, JR. – A MONSTER OF AN OPPORTUNITY

Hats off to Kenny
for making a good business decision that also affects Kenny personally.

Tommy, it shows that not only you are an asset as a driver, but also as a team
player and accepted by Kenney's sponsors.

Now we will see Kenny changing shirts as he oversees his two teams.

Hey Kenny, if Brandon or TJ just happens not to be available for testing, keep
your helmet and driver’s suit on hand.  -

FEEDBACK ARTICLE - THE DATSUN 280ZX FUNNY CAR ERA

Thank
you for the great write up of the Datsun funny cars.  Hopefully my
project will gain your instrest.  I am currently building my first
Funny car and yes it is a Dutsun: One of only 2 survivors from the
orginal "12 or so.." as per Gary Densham.  The body was purchased about
3 years ago from Forrest LeBlanc here in Washington.  I then bought a
local chassis, built by Tony Cazares, that has been in competition for
several years: Traced to its original owner Tom McEwen.  This was the
second COORS Light vette that Tom sold off.  All of thees details have
been comfirmed by Tom Prock. - Jeff Dykes

1-29-08burkart.jpgIn
the last part of the season, with fitting in for John Force I think
Phil did a very very good job filling in for John, there's got to be a
team or racing owner to give Phil a shot, he proved himself with the
CSK team and with JFR, Hope someone gives him a shot good luck Phil I
know he will find a ride in 2008. - Art
