VP Racing Fuels has spent decades supplying racers with what goes into the fuel tank. At this year’s Stampede of Speed, the Texas-based company is bringing something to Texas Motorplex intended for a different kind of tank.
VP Racing Spirits will make its major motorsports-event debut during the Stampede of Speed, Oct. 9-18, at Texas Motorplex, introducing its Grand Tour Collection and its first offering, Twisted Sisters Texas Whiskey.
And because this is still a drag race and not a whiskey convention, VP Racing will also handle the business racers know it for.
VP Racing Fuels, whose racing fuel is the Official Fuel of NHRA, has joined Texas Motorplex as a track partner and will supply fuel during the NHRA Divisional event and Texas Fall Nationals. Five-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums will be available through the track’s fuel station, with competitors also able to pre-order fuel for pickup at events.
That side of the deal is familiar territory but the whiskey isn’t.
Twisted Sisters Texas Whiskey is the first product in VP Racing Spirits’ Grand Tour Collection, developed with San Antonio-based Alamo Distilling Co. The name comes from the Twisted Sisters, the well-known collection of roads winding through the Texas Hill Country.
The concept takes VP Racing outside the confines of race fuel and performance chemicals without straying too far from the culture that built the company. Instead of trying to hide its motorsports DNA while moving into another market, VP is leaning directly into it.
“When we set out to build VP Racing Spirits, we knew success would require more than a great idea. It required the right partner, the right expertise, and a shared commitment to quality,” VP Racing CEO and President Alan Cerwick said. “Alamo Distilling brought all three. Their craftsmanship, reputation, and deep Texas roots made them the ideal foundation for VP Racing Spirits and the Grand Tour Collection.
“Together, we’re creating a platform for growth that celebrates exceptional spirits, memorable experiences, and the spirit of discovery that drives both brands.”
Fans will be able to sample and purchase Twisted Sisters at bars around Texas Motorplex during the Stars of Texas Music Festival and the racing portion of the Stampede. Additional tastings and promotions are planned for VP Racing Spirits Final Qualifying on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The launch fits a Stampede of Speed program that has increasingly stretched beyond what happens between the guardwalls. The Motorplex has built the October event around concerts, fan activities and Texas culture surrounding the NHRA national event.
For track co-owner Christie Meyer Johnson, bringing another Texas company into that mix wasn’t much of a reach.
“The Stampede of Speed represents ‘All Things Texas’ and we can’t think of a better partner to help fill that role than San Antonio based, VP Racing,” Johnson said. “Everyone in the racing world knows their competition products, and now their consumer-based products such as gas stations in town, car washes, and spirits are making their brand a regular household name throughout the U.S.”
VP Racing Spirits also plans appearances at the GTR Festival in November and events next spring, including the World Series of Pro Mod and TX2K.
