Demolition is already under way, with the end result being a safer and more modern facility. The dragstrip will be rebuilt with a completely new racing surface, new guardrails, a state-of-the-art timing system and more. Drivers can expect other improvements such as a new drive-through water box replacing the old back-in box, and test-and-tune nights which will be held regularly.
Both drag races and tractor pulls will be held at the Galot Motorsports Park, and improving the overall experience will be a key factor in upcoming decisions. The existing mud pit will be also be retained, and a focus will be placed on creating a family-friendly environment.
Updates and improvements aren’t just limited to the physical property itself; longtime IHRA Division Director Satch Gragg has been named the general manager of the track. Having spent more than three decades working alongside racers and teams, Gragg, a highly respected figure in drag racing, will oversee operations of the track and head up future initiatives.
The entire Galot team is committed to respecting the history of the track while building a bigger and better facility. A new Galot Motorsports Park website is currently in the works and will be available at www.galotmotorsportspark.com. The grand re-opening is tentatively set for March, 2014.
