David Davies, known as a driving force behind the NHRA’s Factory Stock Showdown division, escaped injury Monday after a crash during a Top Fuel licensing run at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Davies was making his first official Top Fuel pass as part of the NHRA licensing process when the incident occurred. The session launched what is expected to be his eventual transition from the wheel of a door car to the sport’s quickest and fastest class.
According to video of the incident, the run was to be a 330-foot hit. Just shy of that point, the dragster’s rear tires began to smoke, turning the car sharply right and sending it into and over the retaining wall. The dragster sustained significant damage, but Davies climbed out under his own power.
He was immediately attended to by the NHRA’s on-site medical team before leaving the track for further evaluation at University Medical Center in his personal vehicle. The trip was described as voluntary and precautionary.
Hart drives a Factory Stock Showdown Dodge Challenger under the umbrella of Dave Davies’ team. Josh Hart Racing confirmed that Davies was alert and uninjured, and the team will evaluate the dragster before determining next steps in the licensing process. “We’re thankful Dave is okay,” a team representative said. “The car did its job, and that’s what matters most.”
Davies has maintained a strong professional relationship with Hart, helping oversee the team’s Factory Stock program throughout the season. Monday’s test represented a major milestone in expanding his driving credentials within the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.
