COMP RACER CHOMISKI BECOMES FIRST NHRA EVENT WINNER AT FLYING H DRAGSTRIP

Comp racer Taylor Chomiski killed two birds with one stone at the NHRADivision 5 event at the new Flying H Dragstrip outside Kansas City, Mo. This weekend's first of two events marked the fourth stop on the $750,000 Rooftec Competition Eliminator Bonus Fund series [CEBF].

Chomiski scored his first career Rooftec CEBF, and in beating Don Thomas, he kept the curse intact, which prevented a racer from winning two of the events in the same season.

The second-generation Chomiski won five rounds of competition behind the wheel of his C/Super Modified Cobalt to seal the deal.

"It's taken me a few years, and I couldn't be happier to be here." Chomiski said from the Flying H Dragstrip winner's circle. "I started driving, had the opportunity in 2020, and won [a race] in my first season. You remain humble, but you think they're going to come, and there's just too many good guys out here. We do our best every day, and I feel on top of the mountain today."

The final round was a tale of .003s, as Thomas went .003 on the red side and Chomiski was the same amount in the green.

"Being from Amarillo and my dad from Amarillo, they're at each other's shop almost every day, if not six days a week," Chomiski said. "So we know [Don] really well. I knew he had a few in the bank, and I was going to make him use it if he wanted to. And -0.003 red to .0.003 green, it's a pretty damn good drag race."

Chomiski scored wins over Sean Vincent, Dave Triplett, Scott Linder, and Rodger Brogdon to advance to the final round.

Thomas defeated Brooke Heckel, Matt Harris, Kevin Carter, and Greg Kamplain on the other side of the ladder.

Despite losing in the first round, Rick Brown retained the points lead for the $200,000-to-win series.
