NESS: THE TECH INSPECTOR?

Word has it that semi-retired chassis builder Don Ness might be busy next season in a new role outside of chassis builder. A highly placed source tells CompetitionPlus.com that Ness will likely join the ADRL technical staff in an attempt to place closer scrutiny on their Extreme Pro Stock division.

UPDATED: VMP ON THE SHEIK'S RADAR SCREEN?

Earlier this year, it was reported that Sheik Khalid Bin Hamad Al Thani had attempted to purchased Gateway International Raceway but the deal fell through. Could Virginia Motorsports Park, located south of Richmond, Va., be the next conquest on his list? That's what multiple sources have told CompetitionPlus.com.

UPDATED: Alan Johnson Racing/Al-Anabi team manager Chad Head has confirmed with CompetitionPlus.com that the Sheik will not be purchasing Virginia Motorsports Park despite the rumors that have run rampant lately.

ANOTHER ROUND OF NHRA LAYOFFS?

Multiple sources have told CompetitionPlus.com that the NHRA has released a number of employees, reportedly in a cost-cutting move. This marks the second round of layoffs for the Glendora, Ca.-based sanctioning body this year. Word has it that as many as 14 employees were affected by this move.

TWO-CAR TEAM IN NHRA PRO STOCK?

The landscape for NHRA Pro Stock promises to be different in 2010 and that could hold especially true for one team next year if this rumor pans out. Those within Rodger Brogdon's camp won't say one way or the other, but from what we're hearing, a second car is forthcoming and the choice of drivers is bound to catch everyone off guard. That's all we can say for now.

HORNICK JOINS JOHNNY GRAY?

Word has it that Joe Hornick, head engine builder for Greg Anderson's Pro Stock three championships and the last two won by Jeg Coughlin Jr., has reportedly left Cagnazzi Racing and joined forced with Pro Stock racer Johnny Gray at his new engine shop located in Denver, NC,

T-PED WITH TASCA IN 2010?

A rumor circulated last season that Tony Pedregon was joining forces with Bob Tasca III. That rumor has grown legs once again for 2010. A reliable source has told CompetitionPlus.com, with a degree of uncertainty regarding major sponsorship for Pedregon, that he will join Bob Tasca. There's no word at this time whether Pedregon is an expansion of the team or a replacement. 

A DIFFERENT IHRA IN 2010?

Multiple sources have confirmed with CompetitionPlus.com that the face of the IHRA will change drastically for 2010. Look for booked in Top Fuel shows. Possibly the most disturbing news is that in 2010, the most sacred of their doorslammer divisions, Pro Modified, will run a limited schedule, if it runs at all. The mountain motor Pro Stock division will likely be reduced to an eight-car field.

SECOND AJ/AL-ANABI FLOPPER?

There's a rumor circulating through the pits at zMax Dragway which suggests the Alan Johnson Racing/Al-Anabi Racing team plans to expand to a pair of Funny Cars in 2010. CompetitionPlus.com spoke with a source close to the team and this individual says no expansion is planned at this time. But, as the source adds, this could change at a moment's notice when Sheik Khalid Bin Hamad Al Thani is involved.
