Is "Big Daddy" Don Garlits coming back? Word has it he's going to bring a dragster to the NHRA event in Dallas, Texas. Whether he's running Top Alcohol Dragster or Top Fuel remains to be seen, but he'll definitely be running nitro in the tank.

Dave Connolly was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt blazoned with Makita Tools livery during the recent zMax Dragway test session. Could he soon be a third wheel, at least on a limited basis, for an established two-car Pro Stock team?

STANFIELD'S BIG OPPORTUNITY?

Talk about dangling a carrot before your driver. World has it that Pro Stock team owner Kenny Koretsky has offered his driver Greg Stanfield quite a deal. If the the newly crowned NHRA U.S. Nationals winner wins the Pro Stock world championship, he keeps all of the championship money. While the team hasn't admitted this publicly, word has it a large announcement is coming later this week.

NHRA FINALLY GETS ITS BOSTON MARKET?

There's no national event date yet but reportedly NHRA has finally landed a major track within the Boston market. Word has it that New England Dragway will leave the IHRA at the end of this season and according to sources, the Epping, NH-based facility will host a Division 1 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in July 2011.

A PRO STOCK CREW CHIEF SHAKEUP?

We have learned there was a major Pro Stock crew chief shake-up during the NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, NJ. Word has it that Tommy Utt, crew chief for Rodger Brogdon, was relieved of his duties on Saturday of the event. According to sources, Utt has since joined KB Racing while the opening as Brogdon's tuner has been filled by Tim Freeman.

ANOTHER NASCAR/NHRA ENGINE COMBINATION?

There's some discussion throughout the NASCAR garage area focusing on a certain Chevrolet NASCAR team owner laying the foundation for a new NHRA Pro Stock engine lease program. Could the beneficiary of these services reportedly be the same team courted by a well-known Ford NASCAR engine builder last year?

PRUDHOMME CONSIDERING A RETURN TO DIFFERENT KIND OF INDY?

Drag racing legend Don "The Snake" Prudhomme was at the Indianapolis 500 as a guest of Chip Ganassi Racing. Could it be that Prudhomme has been discussing a comeback to racing, just not the straight line kind? Could it be Prudhomme is considering a role as Indy car owner with Ganassi supplying the cars and engines? Clearly this is in the discussion stages but if it comes to pass, it wouldn't be the first 1960s drag racing legend who headed for the Indy cars. Remember that fella named Danny Ongais?
