For the first time since his high-speed crash during the opening IHRA Triple Crown Series event near Columbus, Ohio, Top Fuel Motorcycle legend Larry McBride is ready to tell his story.

McBride will join Alan Reinhart and Competition Plus social media director Nicole Clark on today’s Alan Reinhart Show at 5 PM EST, marking his first podcast appearance since the accident that has caused a buzz in the drag racing community.

The appearance will give McBride an opportunity to explain exactly what happened during the incident and address the flood of speculation that followed across social media and internet forums.

More importantly, McBride says he’s looking forward to correcting what he believes are widespread misconceptions about the accident.

“Right. Well, it’s going to be great to be able to tell the truth of these people that sit there behind their computers and say really, really ignorant things and hurtful things about people, right?” McBride said. “I don’t know. I tell you, I can’t even believe some of them that I read. It’s very hurtful, not only to me, but to my family that reads it.”

McBride admitted he generally avoids responding to online criticism, though one comment prompted him to break that rule.

“I don’t comment back on anything. I’m just not that person to do that,” McBride said. “But I did write this one guy a letter just to let him know that he needed help, and there was only one person that can help him and that was God, and he needs him bad.”

McBride also took issue with some of the theories circulating online about the cause of the accident.

“These people saying, ‘I’m waving at the crowd.’ What crowd is at top end?” McBride said. “They’re just ignorant. It’s just a shame. I see why our world’s in the position it’s in now. We have some pretty stupid people, right?”
