SUNDAY FINAL – MILLICAN, BECKMAN, ANDERSON CLAIM WINS AT LUCAS OIL NHRA WINTERNATIONALS

Clay Millican’s crew chief Jim Oberhofer gave his driver some unenviable options headed into the Top Fuel final round at the NHRA Lucas Oil Winternationals hosted by In-N-Out Pomona Dragstrip.
“He told me he had it loaded up, and a couple things were going to happen. He said we’re going to win, we’re going to blow up, and if we lose, we’re going to be a footnote in history,” Millican said. “Thank goodness we’re not a footnote in history. Tony Stewart is going to win one of these soon, but all I know is we won the Winternationals.
“Boy, that final round was forever. When you blow it up and – and we blew it up good – and you got a HANS (head restraint) device on, you’re stretching that HANS to its limits, trying to look over like, ‘Is he coming or not?’ I couldn’t get there quick enough. I promise I never let off the throttle, even though it wasn’t running no more. But I had that thing buried. I was stomping on the loud pedal harder than normal. What a day.
“Winning (the Winternationals) is one of the majors. It definitely is. We’ve won Indy and now we’ve won here, and that’s pretty dang cool. But to come out and win the way we did today, it was a total team effort. I pulled us out once, which rarely ever happens, and the team just stuck together.”
Millican’s victory was his first in Pomona, and he was joined by Jack Beckman (Funny Car) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) at the third race of the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.
Millican posted a time of 4.273 seconds at 189.71 mph in his Mighty Fire Breaker/Parts Plus dragster before an engine explosion at the finish line. This victory is the eighth of Millican’s career, as he defeated Shawn Reed, Jasmine Salinas, and No. 1 qualifier Brittany Force on his way to the final.
Millican displayed strong performance on the starting line, clocking a .038 reaction time against Stewart. With this win, he moves to sixth in points and denied Stewart his first career Top Fuel victory.

In Funny Car, Beckman secured John Force Racing’s 300th victory, going 4.015 seconds at 302.88 mph in his PEAK Chevrolet Camaro SS to defeat Daniel Wilkerson. This win is Beckman’s 38th career victory, and he dominated the weekend with multiple runs in the 3.80s during eliminations.
“The car was amazing all weekend. We qualified fourth, but we got qualifying points every single round and ran 3.80s every round of eliminations until the final when (a) part fell off a couple of hundred feet out and the car shook the tires and knocked them loose,” Beckman said. “That’s where, as a driver, you’ve got to be ready to give one back to the team because they’d given me everything all weekend long.
“It felt good to be able to pedal the thing and take it down there and have the car not blow up. It’s pretty cool when they hand you a trophy, your car still intact, and get John Force Racing its 300th Funny Car win.”
Wilkerson advanced to the final round for the second time in his career after besting J.R. Todd, Paul Lee, and rookie Spencer Hyde.

In Pro Stock, Anderson set a track record in the final round against teammate Dallas Glenn with a run of 6.476 at 210.90 mph in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro. This victory marks his 16th career win in Pomona, the second-most in NHRA history.
“I love this place,” Anderson said. “These are proud days today, and just like three months ago … you want to give your best shot in the final round against the toughest competition.”
Anderson is now the second-winningest driver in NHRA history with 109 race wins, trailing only John Force. He came into the event tied with Frank “Ace” Manzo.
Anderson is the points leader and continues to excel in the season, having recently secured the GESi Pro Stock No. 1 qualifier award for the second consecutive race. Glenn advanced to his third straight final round after defeating Erica Enders, Matt Hartford, and Deric Kramer.
The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series will return to action April 11-13 at Las Vegas, Nevada.

PROCK RETURNS TO THE TOP AS FORCE, ANDERSON ENTER #WINTERNATS AS NO. 1 QUALIFIERS

The world is now back to spinning on its normal axis.
After two races where Austin Prock did not leading qualifying, the 2024 NHRA Funny Car rookie who rewrote class records in both success and performance ended his mini-slump to jump to the top of the list at the NHRA Lucas Oil Winternationals in Pomona, California.
Prock was the only new face at the top of the In-N-Out Pomona Dragstrip leaderboard as Brittany Force (Top Fuel) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) held on to their top spots from Friday.
Prock secured the No. 1 role with a blistering 3.816 seconds at 338.26 mph run. He will face Blake Alexander in the opening round of eliminations as he seeks his first victory of 2025. This marks the 20th time in his career that Prock will enter race day as the top qualifier.
Arizona Nationals winner Paul Lee qualified second with a 3.829, 331.45, and Ron Capps is third after going 3.830, 328.94.

Force earned her first top qualifier of the year with a run of 3.646 seconds at 334.82 mph. She will face Steve Chrisman in the first round and aim for her first Winternationals victory.
“We’ve had some really strong performance on track. We want to turn on four win lights tomorrow,” Force said. “I love this place. It’s just home for me … so we want to finish strong.”
Saturday’s #2Fast2Tasty winner Shawn Langdon qualified second in Top Fuel with a 3.657-second run at 335.15.
“We’ve had some really strong performance on track,” Force said. “We earned a No. 1 qualifier. We went 3.64 twice and then a 3.69 today. We want to turn on four win lights tomorrow. Looking at our ladder, we could have a bye second round, which is awesome for us. I love this place. It’s just home for me. I grew up out of here at this racetrack and in the stands. You just have that good feeling coming out here, and we want to do well. My whole family’s out here. I’ve had all my friends this weekend popping in and out, and it’s just our home race track, so we want to finish strong.”

Anderson maintained his No. 1 ranking in Pro Stock with a time of 6.490 seconds at 210.77 mph in his HendrickCars.com Camaro. This is Anderson’s 134th career top qualifier as he seeks his second consecutive win at Pomona.
“Running 6.40s seems to be the price of poker out here this weekend,” Anderson said. “You better run 6.40 or you’re probably going to go home. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of cars that can do it. I think only two of them didn’t today, but there’s a lot of them that can do it, and you’re going to see more of it tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it. It should be a hell of a race.
“You kind of need to have a lot of luck because there’s too many good cars, too many good drivers, and too many good race teams. You better not only have a fast race car, but you also better have some luck.”
Saturday’s #2Fast2Tasty winner Matt Hartford qualified second in Pro Stock with a 6.490, 210.67, while Deric Kramer sits third with a run of 6.511 seconds, 210.80.

BECKMAN, LANGDON, AND HARTFORD SECURE WINS IN MISSION #2FAST2TASTY CHALLENGE

Jack Beckman laid down his portion of a dominant performance for John Force Racing at the 65th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals on Saturday at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.
Beckman increased his round win streak to six consecutive rounds at Pomona by winning the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge specialty race.
Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) also drove their way to victory Saturday afternoon.
In the final round, Beckman posted a time of 3.831 seconds at 330.72 mph in his PEAK Chevrolet Camaro SS to beat Paul Lee in the final round. This marked Beckman’s first victory in the specialty race.
“Paul Lee’s car is an A-level competitive car, and when we went 3.83 in round one, we were feeling pretty spicy, and then they go 3.82 and got lane choice, but we knew it didn’t matter,” Beckman said.
“These conditions are A-plus-plus, as good as it gets out there. The issue when the track gets as good as the crew chiefs don’t have much data on this. We know what to do when the track gets good, but when the track gets great, you can count on one hand, typically, the number of runs a year you get when the track is phenomenal. In all likelihood, all the runs tomorrow are going to be in those type of conditions.”

In Top Fuel, Kalitta Motorsports continued to flex its muscle as Langdon defeated teammate Doug Kalitta in the final round, with a run of 3.662 seconds at 338.68 mph in his Kalitta Air Careers dragster. This victory earned Langdon his second consecutive Mission Foods #2Fast2Tasty Challenge title.
Langdon won the event in Phoenix last weekend, and his latest performance marked the second-fastest run in Top Fuel history. He heads into Sunday’s eliminations with the third-best time of the weekend and an opportunity to double up for the second straight race.
“Honestly, it’s a great feeling to come back from the run and see the smile on Connie’s (Kalitta) face and see the smiles on the team’s faces. All their hard work, everything’s paying off,” Kalitta said. “The cars are running good, which is great. They’re responding well to what the crew chiefs have been doing.
“It’s obviously a great feeling when everything’s clicking, and the biggest thing now is we got a good, fast, consistent race car. Now it’s just a matter of maintaining it and trying to see if we can kick off a couple wins along the way and get ready for the Countdown at the end of the year.”

Hartford defeated Greg Anderson in the final round of the Pro Stock portion of the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, recording a time of 6.496 seconds at 210.67 mph. This win marked Hartford’s second victory in the specialty event, with his first win occurring two years ago in Pomona.
“This is as good a car as I’ve ever had. It’s hateful,” Hartford said. “A win is the next thing for us, but you’ve got to get through first round and take it one round at a time.”
Hartford acknowledged the competitive field, noting the high caliber of cars, including first-round opponent Troy Coughlin Jr. “The conditions tomorrow are going to be hateful … the cars are all going to pick up tomorrow,” he added.
FRIDAY QUALIFYING – RON CAPPS LEADS POMONA QUALIFYING, FORCE AND ANDERSON GET PROVISIONALS

Resiliency is such an inadequate word when it comes to describing Ron Capps’ rebound at the NHRA Winternationals at the In-N-Out Pomona Dragstrip in Pomona, California.
Should Capps maintain his position, it will mark his first No. 1 qualifier of 2025 and the 38th of his career, carrying added significance due to the events of last Sunday in Phoenix. Brittany Force (Top Fuel) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) are also provisional No. 1 qualifiers at this third event of the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.
It’s been less than a week since the NAPA Auto Parts-sponsored Capps blew his Toyota Funny Car to smithereens during the first round at the NHRA Arizona Nationals and came to a halt after a side impact with the retaining wall of Firebird Motorsports Park.
Capps made the quickest run of both sessions at Pomona, clocking 3.830 seconds at 328.94 mph.
“I’m pretty beat up and sore and bruised up and just wanted to get back in the car,” Capps said. “I just couldn’t wait for today … Before I knew it, I made the run, and they came on the radio and said, ‘You’re the No. 1 qualifier.’”
Capps expressed deep respect for his team’s dedication amid challenges.
“I’ve never, never, ever had any doubt … they’ve hardly slept,” he added.
Reigning world champion Austin Prock is in second place after a run of 3.837, 333.25. His teammate, Jack Beckman, follows closely in third with a time of 3.855 at 326.40.

In Top Fuel, Force took the early lead in the first session, running 3.646 seconds at 334.82 mph in her Monster Energy dragster. This performance marked the fastest eighth-mile run in NHRA history at 301.67 mph, potentially securing her 53rd career No. 1 qualifier.
“It’s tough when you come into an event and go right into a race without any chance to qualify or make some runs,” Force noted. “We’re off to a good start. … Winning is the ultimate goal. This is my home track, and I’d love to win here.”

In Pro Stock, Anderson distinguished himself with the only run in the 6.40s, posting 6.495 seconds at 210.01 mph in his HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro. This achievement places him as the quickest Pro Stock qualifier in Winternationals history.
Anderson is pursuing his second No. 1 qualifier of the season and the 134th of his career. “I’ve got a small part of that, and probably prouder of that than … my car went to No. 1 because it’s hard to do that to make them all run good,” he said.
Matt Hartford currently stands second with 6.510, 209.14 mph, while Aaron Stanfield is in third, clocking 6.515 seconds at 210.28.
Qualifying continues at noon PDT on Saturday at the 65th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.
FRIDAY NEWS – KALITTA REIGNS SUPREME IN TOP FUEL ALL-STAR CALLOUT

It never rains in Southern California, right?
Friday in Pomona, California, begs to differ.
The only “reign” Friday at the NHRA Winternationals belonged to past NHRA Top Fuel champion Doug Kalitta. He rose to the top at the rain-delayed NHRA All-Star Callout, claiming victory by stopping another past series champion, Brittany Force.
The race, originally scheduled for the NHRA opener in Gainesville, Florida, was completed in Pomona, where Kalitta clocked 3.657 seconds at 335.15 mph in his Mac Tools dragster to beat Force, who ended the day as Top Fuel No. 1 qualifier.

Kalitta, the 2023 world champion, defeated Clay Millican and Antron Brown earlier to secure his place in the finals. This victory marks another significant achievement at the track, where he earned his first world title less than two years ago.
“It’s been a while since we raced on a Friday, so that was pretty cool and we were super excited for what Right Trailers has done for us with this Callout,” Kalitta said. “We tried to do it in Gainesville, and there’s no better place to bring it than here. I love running this place, but I’m glad to get by Brittany, Antron, and Clay. It was a fun day, for sure.
“The guys gave me a great car to be able to run that .65 after watching Brittany run the .64 a couple times. I knew we had that run in us, and I’m glad we were able to do it.”
