NHRA driver Shawn Langdon is trading in his race car for a golf club today as he participates in the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Global Credit Union Official Pro-Am. This event precedes the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals set to take place this weekend in Pomona, California.
Following his victory at the NHRA Arizona Nationals last weekend, the 2013 NHRA Top Fuel champion will play at Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass, located next to Firebird Motorsports Park.
Langdon will be paired with three additional amateurs and two LPGA TOUR professionals, including California native Lucy Li, during his 18-hole pro-am round. The tournament features a competitive field, including World No. 1 Nelly Korda and 19 of the top 20 golfers in the world.
“I think it’ll be a good time, and I’m excited to play,” Langdon said. “I just hope I can keep it in the fairway – maybe our pro players will give me some pointers. I’ve never played in a pro-am before, so I don’t really know what to expect.”
Last week, LPGA golfers Li and Ryann O’Toole joined NHRA drivers Jasmine Salinas and Maddi Gordon for runs down the track before they all gathered for chipping and putting at Whirlwind Golf Club.
Langdon and his fellow amateurs learned their pairings during last night’s Pro-Am Pairings Party. Clips from Langdon’s Pro-Am experience will be featured on Team Kalitta and NHRA social media channels and included in this weekend’s NHRA on FOX broadcasts from Pomona.
As with most LPGA TOUR events, the tournament will be televised on Golf Channel, and it is likely that one broadcast will include segments from Langdon’s round.
