You just had to experience the NHRA Cajun Nationals to appreciate it. We have about the closest thing in video, but even that doesn’t do the event justice.

The NHRA Cajun Nationals was held at the State Capital Raceway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from 1976 until 1980, primarily during Memorial Day weekend. The event drew racers and fans from across the region and featured various categories of competition, including Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock.

The Cajun Nationals was notable for its festive atmosphere, celebrating Louisiana’s culture, and attracting a mixture of professional racers and local competitors. Over the years, it contributed to the popularity of drag racing in the southern United States before eventually being discontinued. It remains a fond memory for many fans of the sport.

We have opened up what we have in the video vaults from 1979 until the last race in 1990.
