Billy Meyer’s fan-favorite 1980 Chevrolet Citation Funny Car is the latest to be immortalized in the CompetitionPlusStore.com Heritage Series apparel line, the company announced this week. The limited-edition shirt is now available for pre-order and will not be reprinted once sold out.

Meyer’s Citation represented a departure from the traditional Camaro, Corvette and Monza Funny Car bodies that had dominated Chevrolet’s presence in the class. The car carried Meyer to two NHRA Winston final rounds in 1980, including one victory, and became a fixture of that year’s competitive field.

In IHRA Winston competition, the Citation was even more successful, winning two of three final rounds and clinching the season championship. The unique body style and consistent performance made it a standout in both series.

The car was also involved in one of drag racing’s more unusual moments during the 1980 NHRA Spring Nationals. After the reverser broke on his car, Meyer attempted to turn the Citation around in his own lane, resulting in what many likened to a game of “nitro chicken” on the starting line.

The release of the Meyer shirt continues CompetitionPlusStore.com’s growing Legends lineup, which also features Dale Pulde, Warren Johnson, Rickie Smith and most recently Pat Musi. Each driver has been recognized for their contributions to the sport and lasting impact on drag racing history.

The Meyer shirt, is printed by Classic Graphix and features stunning artwork of the distinctive Citation Funny Car, is available exclusively through the store’s website. Fans can pre-order now at competitionplusstore.com. Shirts ship on July 31, 2026.
