If anything, newly crowned NHRA Top Fuel champion Antron Brown is versatile. He’s also a drag racer with a vision of grandeur. But for the four-time champion, grandeur means racing everything he can while expanding AB Motorsports’s footprint.
Brown has raced two wheels, then transitioned to four wheels and 330 mph, and two years ago made the transition to 10.5-inch tires and Drag Radial racing. Next weekend, he will continue his tour of everything drag racing with a shot at racing a Pro Modified, the most volatile of all doorslammer racing entities. He is participating in the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals, the three-race Drag Illustrated Winter Series kick-off event in Bradenton, Fla.
“I do nothing in life to come out there just to be out there,” Brown said. “I want to come and I want to win and have a chance to win. I line up against big dogs every day. That’s what I do.”
Brown has partnered with Buginga once again and will drive a ProCharged red Lexus RCF tuned by renowned doorslammer tuner Steve Petty. He is also bringing parts of his Matco Tools team with him. So inspired by Brown’s move into fast doorslammers, his Top Fuel crew chief Brian Corradi has purchased an RH Race Cars-built Procharged 2018 Camaro that Top Dragster ace Zach Sackman will drive at this event.
“I just wanted to dabble in [Pro Modified] and maybe get my license one of these days,” Corradi said. “Meanwhile, Zach will drive it. I went with the Procharger combination so we could see better out of the car.”
If Brown ends up racing, the boss intends to make him or anyone he races see the back of his car. They will compete against over 60 drivers from various backgrounds, including Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings and drag radial classes. Brown expressed excitement about the diverse competition.
“When I put the helmet on and my visor goes down, I don’t care who you are,” Brown stated. “I give nobody no false hope. If you’re going to beat me, you’re going to beat me. I ain’t letting nobody win.”
Following the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals, the Winter Series continues with the U.S. Street Nationals on Jan. 23-26, 2025, and the World Series of Pro Mod from Feb. 27 to March 1, 2025. The driver accumulating the most points across all three races will be crowned the series champion.
