The DMP Awnings Nitro Chaos Championship series 2024 season opener has been confirmed. In a significant move, the Texas Motorplex is set to host Nitro Chaos as part of the highly anticipated Funny Car Chaos Classic from April 4 – 8, 2024. This event will be a three-day drag race and a multi-day celebration of the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. The extravaganza guarantees five days of racing, featuring a car count of at least 75-plus entries.

“I grew up a Motorplex kid,” said Chris Graves, CHOS founder. “The Motorplex is where my drag racing addiction was born. It’s truly an honor and privilege for me to be able to host a CHAOS event there, and I can’t thank the Meyer family enough for their support of what we are doing at CHAOS.

“In three years, we have built this event to a very high standard as the largest funny car race on the planet. 2024, seeing the addition of Nitro Chaos, will no doubt take this event to the next level. If you dig nitro cars, funny cars, drag racing, period, this is one of those bucket list events for your calendar.”

Since its inception in 2021, the Funny Car Chaos Classic has become a magnet for over 50 Funny Cars nationwide, even attracting overseas participants. The newest addition to the CHAOS brand is the highly anticipated Nitro Chaos. Following the same format as Funny Car Chaos, Nitro Chaos is open to any vehicle driven by four wheels, with the engine in the front and a minimum of 80% nitromethane in the tank. Fuel Altereds, Front Engine Dragsters, Funny Cars, and Pro Mods will compete and earn points toward becoming a Nitro Chaos Champion.

The Texas Motorplex competition director Eric McClelland said his facility is excited about the event.

“It’s always a great show and great fun when the CHAOS rolls into town, and the new Nitro Chaos series is just going to amplify those things for everyone moving forward,” McClelland said. “We like to go big at the Motorplex, and this is definitely going to be big. There will be so many funny cars and nitro burners on the property. We love the CHAOS and hope you can make plans to join us in April. It’s going to be one of those events where you just have to be there.”

The 4th Annual Funny Car Chaos Classic, now featuring Nitro Chaos, is set to begin on Thursday, April 4th, with a full day of testing. This will be followed by an event pre-party in the pits, complete with live music and more festivities. On Friday, spectators can enjoy two sessions of pro qualifying, culminating in a ‘Friday night under the lights’ feature show.

Saturday will offer a final qualifying session for the pro classes, and eliminations will begin in the afternoon. Sunday and Monday will be filled with entertainment to celebrate the solar eclipse, with additional announcements expected soon.

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale on November 1, 2023, through www.texasmotorplex.com.
