MATT SMITH TO RACE PRO EXTREME?

Word comes to us at Attitude's CompetitionPlus.com past NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Matt Smith will soon try his hand at four-wheeled drag racing. Our source close to the Arabian Drag Racing League tells us Smith will soon be named as the new driver of Sheikh [KH] Khalid Al Thani's Pro Extreme doorslammer. At this time, there's no definitive word whether Smith will give up his Pro Stock Motorcycle gig or on the status of Al Thani's driving career.

ORP TO RUN ADRL EVENT IN 2012?

With three proposed new venues on the ADRL tour for 2011, West Palm Beach, Fla., Reading, Pa, and Joliet, Ill., word has it the 2012 schedule could feature a date at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis.

THE ADRL'S NEW VENUES

The ADRL is expected to announce their 2011 series schedule during the Performance Racing Industry trade show on Friday in Orlando, Fla. In the schedule, the ADRL will travel to at least three new venues. Word has it that the ADRL will host events at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa., and Palm Beach International in West Palm Beach, Fla.

KURT BUSCH AT THE 2011 GATORS

Don't think Kurt Busch's procurement of a Pro Stock license was just something to do. World has it the NASCAR driver plans to race at next season's NHRA Gatornationals behind the wheel of a Dodge Avenger prepared by Mopar-sponsored teammember Allen Johnson. Beyond the Gators, we are also hearing there may be more stops later in the season with Mopar's blessing.

AN EXODUS OF STAPLE TRACKS FROM THE FORMER IHRA?

One year after changing their racing format drastically, sources indicate that at least two of the Nitro Jam's [formerly IHRA] tracks are looking for the door in 2011. Reportedly Rockingham Dragway is looking to return to the NHRA fold as the track's owner Steve Earwood was making the rounds during the NHRA Auto Club Finals in Pomona, Ca.

ANOTHER TOP FUEL CREW CHIEF CHANGE?

Word has it that Bob Vandergriff Jr. will head to the NHRA Finals with a new crew chief on his Top Fuel dragster. Reportedly the new tuner will be Richard Hogan.

TF TEAM PARKING IN 2011?

We happened across an interesting advertisement while surfing the web this morning. While visiting the Tuttle Motorsports website, we took notice of an ad at the bottom of the homepage. A NEW TOYOTA FLOPPER BODY IN 2012?

Word has it that one of the more prominent Toyota Funny Car teams is already hard at work developing a new Camry body. Could this team unveil the new body in 2012? This rumor ought to lead to lots of speculation.

FORD DRIVER HEADED TO MOPAR?

Rookie Pro Stock driver Vincent Nobile will reportedly get his big chance in 2011. Word has it the son of Pro Stock veteran John Nobile will replace Vinny Deceglie as the driver of Nick Mitsos' Mount View Tires Dodge Avenger. The second-gen Nobile made his drag racing debut back in August behind the wheel of his father's Ford Mustang.

A DSR DRIVER SWITCH?

A rumor has been making the rounds suggesting Spencer Massey as a replacement for Cory McClenathan for 2011. That’s not the case says team owner Don Schumacher, who contends McClenathan is still his driver.
