In the 1970s, there was no mistaking this sound. The high-winding, heaving flywheel grinding, gear-jamming symphony made up the orchestra of Modified eliminator. Called blue-collar class racing, Modified thrived in NHRA competition until it was disbanded and divided between Competition and Super Stock.
