The IHRA President’s Cup Nationals will return to Maryland International Raceway (MIR) on August 8-9, 2025, bringing back the roar of 11,000-horsepower Nitro Top Fuel and Funny Cars. After a nine-year hiatus, this celebrated event is set to make a comeback, showcasing the legacy of drag racing on the Eastern Seaboard.
First held from 1992 to 2010 and again from 2014 to 2016, the President’s Cup Nationals has been a key event in drag racing, featuring iconic performances. It marked historic milestones, including the first all 6-second Pro Stock qualified field in 1994 and memorable victories across multiple classes.
Among the notable moments in the event’s history is Jack Ostrander’s 2002 upset, where he ended Clay Millican’s perfect season in the first round before winning the Top Fuel final. That year, over 700 racers participated, causing many to park in a nearby farmer’s field due to overcrowding.
Maryland International Raceway owner Royce Miller expressed excitement for the event’s return, stating, “We are beyond excited to welcome the IHRA President’s Cup Nationals and ‘Nitro Racing’ back to MIR. Thanks to the collaboration between IHRA and WDRA, we now have the opportunity to create even more unforgettable experiences.”
MIR, a premier drag racing venue in the Washington-Baltimore region, has been entertaining fans since July 1966 and hosts over 100 events annually. The track offers continuous action from March through November, including professional and sportsman drag racing, car shows, and various special events.
Details on ticket options, additional race classes, and the full event schedule will be announced soon.
