BATTLE FOR THRONES TITLES SETTLED ON TUESDAY EVENING
The Discovery Channel has its weekly Shark Week, and it’s not for the weak at heart. Starting this year in the second week of October, Donald Long’s Duck X Productions presents its Duck Week. Instead of a television screen, it’s in your face, relentless drag radial doorslammer competition.
The first phase of Duck Week ended on Tuesday evening, with an early-in-the-week drag race featuring the best of the best in five key drag radial divisions – Radial vs. The World, Pro 275, X275, Ultra Street, and Limited Drag Radial.
The Battle of Thrones, the specialty event formerly known as The Sweet 16, came to an end with Brian Markiewicz (Radial vs The World), Jason Collins (Pro 275), Shane Moses (x275), Dave Fiscus (Ultra Street) and Jamie Hancock(Limited Drag Radial).
A longtime Radial versus the World competitor Markiewicz, entered eliminations as the No. 12 qualifiers with his procharged Camaro and stopped Marcus Birt, Chris Daniels, Jeff Miller and, despite being a tenth of a second behind Luis De Leon in the semis, took home the win courtesy of a foul start.
Drag strip owner and former Mountain Motor Pro Stock racer Collins came from the No. 3 qualifying position to stop Brylon Holder in the Pro 275 final round.
Likewise, Moses won the X275 spot from the No. 3 seed, beating Ryan Milliken in the final round.
Fiscus took home the Ultra Street throne, beating Shawn Pevlor on a holeshot, 4.54 to a 4.50 elapsed time.
Hancock closed out the winners, running a 3.911 in the Limited Drag Radial final to stop Paul Gargus.
Thus ends the Battle of the Thrones event, and on Wednesday, begins qualifying for the Duck X No Mercy event.
