Apparently, J.R. Todd still has no use for clowns.
And, apparently, he has no use for failed humor in social media posts, either. Alex Laughlin found that out after an odd first-round loss where Todd’s DHL Toyota wouldn’t initially start and then gained assistance from Matt Hagan’s crew to get the car started. Then Laughlin’s car wouldn’t go into to gear to do either a burnout or stage.
While the two had problems galore just past the start/ready line, the problems had manifest on social media on Saturday because of a Laughlin post.
It read, “After Q2, I blamed the chorizo. But Q3 was great success! Tomorrow we race the yellow FedEx car in 1st round. See ya there.”
Jim Dunn Racing driver Laughlin was shut off and Todd singled for the win.
What caught most race fans off-guard was Todd’s interview, including NHRA announcer Alan Reinhart who quipped, “Did I miss something?”
“It’s really unfortunate to not race against ‘Big Jim’ Dunn and those guys, a living legend, I have a lot of respect for him,” Todd said. “That clown, driving the car maybe he ought to keep his mouth shut from now on.”
Laughlin took the callout in stride, offering, “He’s just sensitive.”
