Auto Imagery, Inc. has announced the promotion of Alex Owens to Vice President, effective January 1, 2025. The company, which has documented nearly five decades of NHRA drag racing, continues its commitment to preserving an archive of over one million historic images.
Owens joined Auto Imagery as an apprentice photographer in 2009 and quickly adapted to capturing high-speed racing action. He transitioned to a full-time role in 2021 and served as Director of Business Relations for the past two seasons.
“I remember looking up photos on AutoImagery.com as a kid, and now to be Vice President of the company – this is a full-circle experience for me,” said Owens. “I’m honored to keep the Auto Imagery legacy alive and to continue growing the business for years to come.”
Owens was recognized as a 2024 Drag Illustrated 30 Under 30 honoree for his contributions to the sport. Richard Shute, the founder of Auto Imagery, will remain President and transition to a more managerial role.
“I am so pleased that Alex joined our team years ago,” Shute said. “Alex has repeatedly shown adaptability and a willingness to work hard to grow Auto Imagery.”
Shute noted that the recognition Owens received contributed to his decision to promote him. “It’s very rewarding to know that everything I see and appreciate in Alex is recognized by others,” Shute said.
In his new role, Owens will balance his responsibilities as Vice President while continuing to capture significant moments in drag racing with his unique style. As Auto Imagery approaches its 50th anniversary, Owens will also acquire a percentage of ownership over the next four years.
“In the 45 years since I started Auto Imagery on March 2, 1979, this is only the third time leadership has changed hands,” Shute stated. “I look forward to seeing the future under the leadership of Alex Owens.”
