After scoring a surprise runner-up finish in Top Alcohol Dragster at last year’s Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway, Mike Lewis will again drive the Conway Automotive A/Fuel Dragster when the national event returns to Reading Aug. 20-23.
The team will be sponsored at Maple Grove by Kemper Equipment of Honey Brook, Pa., a family owned company that manufactures aggregate and mining equipment for producers in the Mid-Atlantic region. Albrecht’s Fast Track Motorcycles of Chicago is also on board as an associate sponsor.
At the ’08 Toyo Tires Nationals, Lewis made his Top Alcohol Dragster debut and had an impressive weekend, qualifying fourth and advancing to the final round before losing the title run to Marty Thacker.
“I want to thank Lyn and Bev Kemper and the great folks at Kemper Equipment for enabling me to partner again with Tom Conway at my home track,” Lewis said. “I also have to thank Don Schumacher, Bob Albrecht and my DSR co-workers who are picking up some of my DSR workload. My whole family will be at Maple Grove and we always celebrate the completion of the event Sunday night. I hope this year’s celebration starts in the Winners’ Circle with some of my DSR teammates.”
Lewis, who was general manager and then president of Maple Grove from 1971 to 1989, is currently senior vice president of Don Schumacher Racing (DSR). He also serves on the Maple Grove Raceway Board of Directors. Before working for DSR, Lewis was executive director of PRO, vice president and general manager of Indianapolis Raceway Park and vice president/field operations for the NHRA.
Lewis has also entered the Conway Automotive dragster in the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals Labor Day weekend in Indianapolis.
