The last time Adam Hickey found himself in a final round at the Texas Motorplex was a race to determine whether he pocketed $100,000 or $25,000.
Hickey not only won the race, he also clinched the second season championship of the Rooftec Comp Eliminator Bonus fund. After a forgettable 2023 season, Hickey has reinserted himself in the conversation again.
Hickey stopped a resurgent Rodger Brogdon, who was the No. 1 qualifier to capture the Comp title at the first race of the Texas Motorplex double divisional event.
“We just ran our own race today,” said Hickey, who also took out series point leader Rick Brown. “We were content to let the chips fall where they may.”
Brogdon broke his engine in the final round against Hickey in the last quarter of the track.
“That was going to be a close race in the final round,” Hickey said.
Fresh off of his Belle Rose win, Jimmy Hildago added another Super Stock win, stopping Brittany Blackmon in the final round.
Stock racer Leo Glasbrenner made his trip from Murietta, Ca., a worthwhile one as kept Hildago from pulling off a double-up.
Mike Owen won Top Dragster while Jimmy Lewis took home the Top Sportsman title.
Kyle Secrest (Super Comp), Jazzy Jay Johnson (Super Gas), Ray Dew (Super Street) and Michael Nash (ET Motorcycle) rounded out the winners.
