Jack Beckman, a championship contender in the Funny Car category, will not compete today in the 39th NHRA Texas Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex. Beckman experienced vertigo-like symptoms upon waking this morning.

The 58-year-old two-time NHRA World Champion qualified the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS in the No. 3 position. He was set to race Texas native Chad Green, the No. 14 qualifier, in the opening round.

“Jack was fine when he left the track Saturday night, but when he woke up this morning, he had vertigo-like symptoms that were not quickly resolved,” said JFR spokesperson Bob McAleer. “On the advice of NHRA medical professionals, he reluctantly has withdrawn from competition this weekend.”
