On July 18, 2023, Atco Dragway announced it was closing its gates and ceasing operations immediately. The announcement meant that all planned events were canceled, including an NHRA Division 1 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event scheduled for August 4 – 6.
Maple Grove Raceway, the pristine facility outside Philadelphia, Pa., has revealed they will fill the void.
“JUST ANNOUNCED! After the unfortunate events this past week, Maple Grove Raceway has agreed to host another Lucas Oil Divisional in partnership with NHRA Northeast Division,” a social media post revealed. “This could not have been made possible without the very generous support of Gold Rush Trailers.”
Maple Grove Raceway had previously completed an NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event on May 26 – 28.
Prior to last April, Maple Grove Raceway had issues of its own, with rumors swirling that the track would be sold and repurposed for other duties than drag racing. The Koretsky Family purchased the historic venue and has stabilized the future of drag racing in the area.
