The NHRA will return to a traditional four-session qualifying format when the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series heads to Pacific Raceways for the 37th annual Muckleshoot Casino Resort NHRA Northwest Nationals on July 24-26. Two qualifying sessions on Friday and two more on Saturday will determine the fields as the series enters one of the final stops before the Countdown to the Championship.
The Seattle event marks the 12th race of the 20-event season and continues NHRA’s 75th anniversary celebration. Saturday also features the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge before eliminations begin Sunday morning.
Friday qualifying is scheduled for 2 and 4:30 p.m. Pacific, while Saturday’s sessions are set for noon and 2:30 p.m. The opening round of eliminations begins at 10 a.m. Sunday, with FOX providing national television coverage beginning at 4 p.m. Eastern.
The return to four qualifying sessions restores a format familiar to longtime competitors and spectators at the Pacific Northwest facility.
The Seattle weekend will also recognize one of drag racing’s longest-serving contributors. Legendary team owner Jim Dunn, whose career spans more than 75 years in the sport, will be honored during the event after a career that included two Seattle runner-up finishes and a 2008 Funny Car victory as crew chief for Tony Bartone.
