Dallas Glenn is the Pro Stock point leader in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.
Glenn, who drives a RAD Torque Systems Camaro for KB Titan Racing, entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed. He holds onto the lead by 31 points over Aaron Stanfield at the halfway point.
He entered the six-race Countdown to the Championship in the No. 1 position in the points standings for the second year.
Glenn didn’t have the best Countdown a year ago and ended up finishing sixth in the points. He’s doing everything he can to avoid a repeat performance.
Being a driver in one of the toughest NHRA divisions definitely brings pressure, and Glenn tries to relieve his stress by playing golf and racing more.
“I like to bracket race some and go golfing and just kind of relax and watch the movies with the wife sometimes. Hang out with the dog,” Glenn said.
Glenn and his wife, Sadie, have a Pomeranian named Henry, who weighs seven pounds.
As for golf, Glenn is no slouch, as he has a nine handicap.
“I mean, I do all right. I can hold my own. I usually average about mid-80s, mid to low 80s. I won’t necessarily go out and practice or anything, but I just go out and have a good time and try to stay relaxed,” Glenn said. “I try to treat it as something that I want to do well, golfing and everything, but I try not to care too much about it. You just go out there and have fun, swing the club around, and try to hit. One thing I do like about it is the challenge of it. It’s very difficult, but at the same time you have to be relaxed and not care at the same time.
“So, it kind of relates to Pro Stock in that the best races I’ve had in a Pro Stock are the ones that I felt the most confidence in my car. And I won’t say I cared the least, but I was the most relaxed.”
Glenn has had a strong season, winning three races and having four more runner-up finishes.
Considering that his Pro Stock gig brings plenty of travel across the country he tries to parlay that with his golf passion.
“I’ve been trying to play a lot of different courses. Wolf Creek (Golf Club) was a lot of fun. That’s in Mesquite, Nevada,” Glenn said. “Actually, the Brickyard (Crossing) course that we just played on (Aug. 30) was a lot of fun too. That’s the one inside of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They have four holes inside the track, and 14 are outside the track. It was a lot of fun. It was a very challenging course.”
Make no mistake, Glenn would love nothing more than to win a world championship this season, but he knows nothing will come easy – especially in Pro Stock.
“Everybody in the class (is so close) and anybody can win on race day, which makes it extremely tough and it’s going to take four good runs to win (races),” Glenn said.
