The Southeast Gassers Association has spent much of the 2026 season fighting more than just its competition.
Weather has repeatedly altered the championship tour, forcing schedule changes and cancellations. Now, rather than letting Mother Nature have the final word, SEGA will close its season with something the organization has never attempted before: three championship races on three consecutive days.
The stage will be Shadyside Dragway near Shelby, North Carolina, where the Championship Finals presented by Robbins Repairables will unfold Oct. 29-31.
What began as a season repeatedly interrupted by rain will end with a weekend packed with championship implications.
The Return to Greer Dragway presented by MAHLE Motorsports was washed out on race day. In contrast, the Gulfcoast Nationals presented by ARP Fasteners was canceled ahead of the event because a threatening forecast ultimately developed into Hurricane Isaias, which aimed at the Gulfport, Mississippi, area and Gulfport Dragway.
Those lost races left SEGA with an unusual problem heading into the final weekend.
The solution is equally unusual.
Thursday and Friday will serve as makeup races for the Gulfcoast Nationals and The Return to Greer, respectively. Both will award full championship points, but competitors will face a format unlike a traditional SEGA race day.
Instead of qualifying to establish the eliminator fields, competitors will draw chips to determine the elimination pairings. One chip draw will establish the bracket for each race, giving every competitor a single opportunity to make a test hit before eliminations begin.
Cars will take to the Shadyside surface for their Thursday and Friday test hits at 4 p.m. Eastern.
After the first two races, the focus will shift to Saturday and the final points-paying event of the 2026 season.
Saturday’s program will return to the familiar SEGA format, with qualifying scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Eastern before the field moves into eliminations.
By the time the final rounds conclude Saturday, the 2026 Southeast Gassers Association Championship Tour will be officially in the books.
For racers, the weekend represents an enormous workload and an equally enormous opportunity. Three races in three days leave championship contenders little room for mechanical problems, missed opportunities, or mistakes. A competitor who enters the weekend with a points advantage cannot afford to protect it.
For fans, however, the unusual format creates its own opportunity.
Three consecutive days of vintage gasser racing will give spectators an extended look at one of the sport’s most distinctive forms of drag racing, with championship points on the line throughout the weekend.
SEGA has also structured admission pricing to make multi-day attendance more attractive.
Thursday and Friday admission will be $20 per day. Fans holding a Greer Dragway ticket stub from Saturday’s SEGA event will receive free admission Friday. Fans can also use the ticket stub as a credit toward the cost of a weekend pass.
Saturday admission will be $25 for the final day of the 2026 season, while a three-day pass will be available for $60.
After a season in which weather has repeatedly forced SEGA to adjust its plans, the organization now has a chance to finish the championship exactly where it wants it — on the racetrack.
The championship contenders will have three opportunities to make their final statement.
Three races, three days, one final chance to leave Shadyside Dragway as a 2026 Southeast Gassers Association champion.
