Greg Anderson cashed in in quite a big way Saturday.


Anderson, the all-time NHRA Pro Stock wins leader, added another victory when he took home the title at the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout at the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK Performance.


Anderson, who drives the HendrickCars.com Chevy Camaro for KB Titan Racing, clocked a 6.595-second elapsed time at 208.36 mph to defeat Matt Hartford’s 6.641-second lap. Anderson collected a $40,000 check from GETTRX.


To win the title Anderson defeated rival and reigning world champion Erica Enders, Troy Coughlin Jr., and then Hartford.


“It was awesome,” Anderson said. “It was absolutely three fantastic runs with my HendrickCars.com Chevy. It was fantastic. There were a lot of guys and gals who struggled out there (Saturday). The starting line got tricky with that direct sun on it. It got tricky out there. My crew chief (Rob Downing) just did a fantastic job and they have got this car in a happy, happy spot and it is fun to drive. It is fun to ride in and it absolutely breeds confidence, and that goes a mile for me because it still comes down to the starting line and who can get off the starting line first nine times out of 10.”


Anderson, who is qualified third for Sunday’s race, is riding a tidal wave of momentum after winning the last race on the schedule in Charlotte and then the GETTRX Pro Stock All-Star Callout.


“If you have confidence, that is a hell of a help. I have a hell of a horse under me and just to have the confidence and hang with everybody on the starting line and let that car do its job,” he said. “That’s what got it done (Saturday), so it feels great. I didn’t get to play in this Challenge last year — I missed it big — and I was glad to be back this year. I feel so good, I feel so confident and my car is so good, and if I get a chance to pick someone, I’m going to pick whoever I think the baddest dog on the planet is — and roles got reversed and Erica picked me. It worked out great. If I would have had first choice I would have picked her.


“She picked me, and that just shows the respect we have for each other and what it means racing each other. It was a great first round win, and sometimes first rounds are like final rounds and that was for sure. That was a great shot in the arm, and we came back and made another beautiful run against Troy Jr. in the semifinal and then a great run in the final against Matt Hartford.”


Anderson, who has 105 Pro Stock national-event wins and five world championships, his last coming in 2021, doesn’t take anything for granted.


“They are all tough,” Anderson said. “Any one of the eight could have absolutely won this very easily and I feel fantastic that we survived and earned it. We ran great and it was a great team victory.”


Anderson was quick to point out that his team must seize the moment when the moment arrives.


“You have to make hay when the sun is shining,” Anderson said. “That’s absolutely the golden ticket. I have got probably the best race car in the class, and it is in the happiest spot of everybody’s car so all I can do is screw it up and thank God I have not done that lately. We will see how long we can keep riding her and try and ride to the finish line again and see what we can do (Sunday). It is a new race again.


“I love racing at Chicago, and I have raced here a lot of years, and it was sad day when we stopped coming here, and it was long period of not coming to one of the greatest racetracks we have on the circuit. It feels great to be back here. It is fun to race here at this racetrack and that’s what Pro Stock cars love.”


In the ultra-competitive Pro Stock class, Anderson realizes he must bring his ‘A’ game all the time.


“I mentioned it the other day — and people probably think I’m an absolute fool — but I said, ‘You know what? I’m not a young gun anymore. The longer the day goes the more tired I get, so I would rather face the tougher competition early on the day, while I’m still awake and still have a little bit of energy and that’s just simply the truth.


“You have to play the cards you are dealt, and that’s what I am dealt these days. I wanted to start at the top and work my way down. Whoever the baddest dog was out there, I said I was going to pick them, and you’re damn right I did.”


Anderson also appreciates that nothing is coming easy for his team.


“We are not backing into these wins, that’s what feels so good about it. We are going out and just flat out earning it. That feels great when you go out and have a race day that you can look back and say we just outraced the competition,” Anderson said. “That’s a proud day for the race team and right now KB Titan is great, and we are going to be a handful for that other group this year. I’m not going to say what’s going to happen down the road, but right now we are as good as we can be, and hopefully we can rack up some wins here.


“We are excited, and race wins … make us want to go home and work harder. That’s the cool thing about it, you go home and try and make a better product for the next race. Pro Stock racing is the baddest class I think there is out here. It is so much fun to race in it and it feels so great at the end of the day when you conquer it.”
