Billy Glidden received the news via text message from a friend, who included a screenshot announcing a new chapter in his racing career. The only problem was that it was the first he’d heard about it.

A website called 08sportsnews.com posted what appears to be a clickbait article proclaiming that Billy Glidden would soon replace Dave Blaney as the driver of the Team Penske Mustang.

“Going up to get fitted for my suit right now, just in case,” Glidden, son of drag racing legend Bob Glidden, said with a laugh on Friday afternoon.

Glidden is not on social media and did not participate in a press conference, as the article alleges.

However, Glidden said he’d have no problem turning left if someone offered him a legitimate NASCAR ride.

“I probably would take them up on it; I’m just that dumb,” Glidden admitted. “I wanted to do it 20 years ago. I’m getting a chuckle out of it. It just shows you can’t believe everything you read on the internet.
