PROJECT WHITE WAGON - SHOCKING THE WAGON

09-17-10_wagon_shocksIf we accomplish one thing with our Project White Wagon, it’s will be in making the car decades advanced in technology over its predecessor. Considering our wagon will be nearly two seconds quicker than the original version built and driven by Gene Fulton, with about 300 more horses under the hood, transferring the power to a track prepared considerably better than back in the day will require a close focus on every aspect of the chassis.

In this installment, we plan to focus on our shocks, which aren’t going to be the run of the mill units you’ll find on your typical Super Stocker.

Santhuff, a company primarily known for their product in Pro Modified applications, learned of our Project White Wagon and wanted to use the platform to introduce a model they’ve had on the drawing board for some time.

Since front coil-over shocks are illegal in the Super Stock division, Santhuff has created a shock which provides all of the advantage of the coil-over design while remaining legal within the rulebook.

EDELBROCK'S E-210 SMALL BLOCK CHEVY HEADS

Edelbrock's new line of E-Series cylinder heads for small-block Chevy offer up to 500 naturally aspirated horsepower and even more potential in forced induction edelbrockapplications - right out of the box! Edelbrock's new line of E-Series cylinder heads are designed for entry-level race performance for large displacement engine, while offering high quality at an affordable price.

Manufactured in the USA, these heads are made from A356 aluminum castings that are heat treated to T-6 specifications for superior strength and quality. ATI SUPER DAMPERS FOR 8.3L CUMMINS

ATI Performance Products is proud to introduce its Super Damper for Cummins 8.3L ISC diesel engines.  ATI P/N 917372 is made to be a direct replacement for the atistock 8.3L damper found commonly in pusher style motor homes and service trucks. Cummins calls for the stock damper to be replaced every 50,000 miles; replacing with the ATI Super Damper will allow for a much longer service interval and easy rebuilding when needed, not replacing. The Super Damper provides dampening of torsional crankshaft vibrations through all RPM ranges.  This damper comes with laser-etched timing marks and exceeds SFI 18.1 Safety Certification.

ATI Performance Products, Inc. is located in Baltimore, MD, and specializes in producing and maintaining high performance products for street and strip applications.  Over the years ATI has earned a reputation for its cutting edge technology, attention to detail, and rigorous testing under race conditions.

PROJECT WHITE WAGON: PROJECT GAINS A PURPOSE

08_06_2010_sandblastingJohn Kozak believes the value in a great sand blasting job is the ability to bring forth a worthwhile project from something discarded as rusted junk.

Kozak, a former Home Depot assistant manager turned BMW employee and later professional sandblaster, joined the Project White Wagon team early last summer with the intention of proving a junkyard 1964 Chevy II wagon could not only make a quality race car but also a record-holding Super Stocker.

Kozak sandblasted some of the initial parts of the car only to be blasted with bad news of his own.

PRO SYSTEMS INTRODUCES THROTTLE STOP VERSION OF SV1

The NHRA Pro Stock ranks are already onto the SV1 for their programs for 2011 acceptance.  But throttle stop class racing is just as intense and sv1bracket29requires precise metering as well.  So after a couple of months of track testing/development the Pro Systems SV1 is now available in a throttle stop version and it made its debut in style.  The SV1 qualified #1 in its debut race at last weeks IHRA Northern Nationals in Quick Rod with our Test team driver Jeff Ledford at the helm.

Unlike most throttle stop carburetors that are required to be small in cfm (this to allow the engine to operate properly at low rpms yet still come back up clean off the stop), the SV1 is not subject to those pitfalls.  The SV1 can still be properly sized, so you can keep your big cfm and high mph charge yet still be clean and sharp coming up off the stop.

The SV1 with its unique single blade design only activates as much of the venturi and booster as is required to cruise along on the stop in it's partially open blade position.  This layout keeps the air speed to the booster and the atomization of the fuel content very high.  This fuel is then finely atomized and more evenly distributed due to this air velocity being focused on ONLY the exposed and used area of the booster at part throttle.  This makes for a more consistent carburetor in part throttle operation.  This innovative blade/booster design also allows it to maintain a large cfm rating so when you go to wide open throttle the energy stored under the blade activates the main boosters in a sweeping fashion from edge to center.  So this very large carburetor comes up off the stop with precision and with no chaotic or random flow patterns.  So you get the mph of a big carburetor and the part throttle precision of a small carburetor all in one design.

Ledford states: At 3800 rpm on the stop my engine rpm varies less than 90 rpm and it comes cleanly off the stop everytime.  Its the most consistent carburetor I have ever owned.

AEROMOTIVE’S SINGLE PUMP, DROP-IN FUEL SYSTEM FOR ’03 1/2 AND LATER CORVETTES

Support big power from a SINGLE pump. Not 1, 2 or 3 band-aided together. Aeromotive Fuel Systems has engineered and developed a solution for 18670the fuel system demands of the Corvette enthusiast. One of the single largest issues with late model performance vehicles is the limitations of the fuel system. With the Aeromotive Stealth System for 2003 1/2 and later Corvettes, there is no more drilling your fuel tanks, no more risking pump failure in a twin pump set up, no more voltage increasing electronics, no more surge tanks, no more mess.

Aeromotive is proud to release thier patent-pending, complete drop-in fuel system available for C6 and late C5 Corvettes (P/N 18670 and 18671). The system gives you your choice of two proven fuel pumps, an A1000 or Eliminator. The best part, it is a complete drop-in assembly into your factory tank that still incorporates the factory jet siphon system. Includes pre-filter, bracket and all the plumbing necessary to install this system into your tank. Now you can plumb a true return-style system into your Corvette without the worry of the siphon system and while using both sides of the factory saddlebag style fuel tank.

The Aeromotive Corvette Stealth System was engineered to outperform multiple pump setups, fit perfectly and optimize performance of the Corvette fuel tank. In short, it was designed to just flat work and at a competitive price to comparable “drop-in” systems.

PROJECT WHITE WAGON – HEAD GAMES

The cylinder head to a Competition Eliminator-style Super Stocker is the equivalent of a foundation for a home. You begin with the cylinder head and build your engine around it.

The leader in Super Stock cylinder head technology is Carl Foltz’s CFE Racing Products, Inc.

“The cylinder head is a key ingredient in a powerful racing engine,” confirmed Scott Kieffer, a sales and technical support agent for CFE. “The other elements of the engine will be determined by the direction of the cylinder head.”

Kieffer’s boss has been around cylinder heads for many years.
