QUARTER MASTER STARTER CORE EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Driveline innovator introduces exchange program to maintain the integrity of the highest quality starters in the performance aftermarket

Even the most reliable products require periodic inspection and maintenance to ensure their continued service life. With that in mind, Quarter Master® has introduced its new Starter Core Exchange Program, specifically designed to protect customer investment in the highest-quality starters on the market. The program allows customers to send used Quarter Master® starters back to the company’s facility, where the starter’s core is then exchanged for a new one. With this new exchange program, customers are able to maintain the value of their Quarter Master® Ultra-Duty™ Starter for less than the cost of an inferior product.

To qualify for the Quarter Master® Starter Core Exchange program, all starters must be returned directly to the Quarter Master® facility (starters will not be accepted through the nation-wide dealer network). Upon receipt, the starter will first be inspected to verify that it is an original Quarter Master® Starter and not previously rebuilt using inferior, substandard components. In addition, the starter will be inspected for any potential crash and internal damage due to improper wiring. Any of these issues will make the starter ineligible for the exchange program.

Following inspection, the drive and nose from the existing starter are removed and assembled onto a hand-built starter. If it is determined that these parts require service, additional costs may be incurred beyond the standard exchange. When the final rebuild is completed, each starter is re-inspected and dyno-tested to verify that it meets the strict quality requirements of Quarter Master®. The entire procedure can be completed in a very short time, oftentimes within one day of receipt of the starter. Participation in this program will not only save time for the racer but also money. The cost of exchanging a Quarter Master® Reverse Rotation Ultra-Duty™ Starter is $175 plus shipping and handling, while the cost for a Quarter Master® Standard Rotation Ultra-Duty™ Starter is $150 plus shipping and handling.

Quarter Master® is known throughout the performance aftermarket for the quality and preparation put into every starter they manufacture. Using genuine Hitachi parts, every starter is blueprinted and individually hand-assembled. After assembly, each starter is then thoroughly
dyno-tested to ensure proper performance.

DIAMOND ENTERS DIESEL MARKET WITH NEW COMPETITION PISTON

Diamond Pistons has taken its first step into the diesel market with a new piston for competition 2-valve TDI Volkswagen engines. These engines, 12dDiamondDieselVWproduced from the mid-eighties to mid-2000, are commonly found in 1.9 liter Jetta, Golf, and Passat models.
   
Made from type 2618 aluminum to withstand high-compression forces, Diamond administers their hard anodizing process to the complete piston and, in addition, applies a moly coat to the piston’s skirt. By hard anodizing the piston, they succeeded in eliminating the factory-style cast steel insert in the top ringland, saving 100 grams per piston. Hard anodizing also introduces a thermal barrier which resists higher temperatures and pressures—it also increases both corrosion- and wear-resistance. The baked-on moly dry-film skirt coating provides an anti-friction and an anti-scuffing surface, which combats potential piston damage from side loading and piston rock.
   
To improve the engine’s quench characteristics, the combustion bowl is wider and shallower than the original equipment by approximately .060in and .025in respectively. A small conical-shaped rise is placed near the center of the piston, similar to that of the factory style. This prevents fuel-wash and assists in minimizing smoke emission.
   
To protect the top ring from excessive heat, Diamond will extend the depth of the top ringland by .040in to .070in. This option is usually determined by the amount of boost pressure employed. In addition the top ring groove features lateral gas ports, bringing extra pressure to bear on the ring’s inner edge, resulting in better ring-to-wall sealing.
   
The piston pins are made of the finest H-13 Tool Steel and coated in Casidium, a diamond-like carbon thin coating that increases their surface hardness. Lubricated by twin oilers in each pin bore, the piston pin is offset in the piston body by .020in. This feature is designed to further reduce the drag and wear on the skirts.
   
A Total Seal® ring pack is provided which includes their Advanced Profile coated stainless steel top ring, Napier-style second ring, and 3.0mm standard tension oil rings. Total Seal Gapless rings are also available.

EDELBROCK'S E-FORCE SUPERCHARGER FOR 2010 CAMARO SS (LS3)

Edelbrock haas announced the delivery of the E-Force Supercharger System for the 2010 Camaro SS manual transmission cars. This system dramatically edelbrockimproves the horsepower of the stock LS3 engine, from 426 HP to 599 HP (as measured at the engine flywheel), while reducing parasitic loss through the use of an integrated bypass valve. It utilizes the same Eaton Twin Vortices Series (TVS) Gen VI rotors as found in the ZR-1 Corvette and in the highly successful Mustang E-Force Superchargers, as well as an air to water intercooler system. Torque is maximized by the integration of 12" long intake runners in a nested configuration that allows the entire assembly to fit beneath the stock hood.

The #1598 E-Force Supercharger System includes all the parts needed for a 50-state legal installation (EO pending), including a hand held programming module for updating the ECU, larger injectors and a high flow, reusable air filter. Matching cast aluminum coil covers are also included to provide a finished under hood appearance. The E-Force supercharger assembly incorporates a self-contained oil system with a 100,000 mile service interval for maintenance free operation. An optional 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty to supplement the factory GM warranty is also available.

The supercharger is also available as a competition kit #1599. Intended for race cars, the competition kit is supplied with only essential components such as the rotor and manifold assembly, intercooler system, and related hardware, while components like the programmer, coil covers and injectors are left to the installer's discretion. The supercharger drive pulley is also excluded, allowing the installer to select from four pulley sizes ranging from 2.75" to 3.50" in diameter, depending on the amount of air flow desired. Due to the flexibility and power range of this option, it is not legal for use on emission controlled vehicles.

LUNATI’S NEW PRO SERIES 6.300-INCH CONNECTING RODS FOR LS RACE ENGINES

Lunati has announced a new Pro Series 6.300-inch connecting rod. It is designed especially for all aftermarket LS large displacement racing blocks with 8dLunati6.3LS9.500 to 9.750-inch deck heights. However, these new American-made rods, which complement Lunati’s recently introduced Pro Series LS long-stroke crankshafts, will fit all LS blocks.

Their chief advantages are two-fold. First, when compared with the 6.125-inch con-rod, their longer length provides essential crankshaft clearance, eliminating the necessity of cutting away valuable counterweight material and the subsequent headaches and extra costs involved in rebalancing. Second, the 6.300-inch long rod restores a more desirable stroke-to-rod ratio. Further, it retains the correct compression height for the piston.

Derived from aerospace 4340 alloy steel, which is oil quenched, tempered, and tested, these premium quality connecting rods were created to handle more power and more rpm.  They are perfect for all-out race engines, for Street-strip engines, even Street Rods—in fact any LS engine where a stroke length of 4.125 inch or longer is desired.

Weighing 245 grams, they are sized on the big end for 2.100-inch crank pins and on the small end for .928-inch piston pins. Finally, they are equipped with ARP2000 series rod bolts—this company’s finest fastener.
