MAKING THE 4150 INTAKE FLOW AIR FROM PRO SYSTEMS

So you've got a high horsepower engine that needs more cfm but you are stuck with a 4150 intake manifold.  You've tried an adapter to fit a Dominator 7760style carb but it barely gained or even lost power.

Our flow tests revealed that when using a 4150 intake manifold and utilizing an adapter to allow the installation of four barrel Dominator style carburetors on 4150 intakes, the cfm can actually end up flowing LESS with the Dominator style carb.

This is because air is lazy and will mostly draw from a central area of the 4150 intake manifolds opening.  As a result very little air flows from the outside edges of the venturis of the new bigger four barrel carburetor.  So this adapted attempt to increase cfm actually gave you less cfm or a very minimal gain in flow of air to the engine.

This is not so when using an SV1 and our NEW Part # 7760 adapter.   

The larger 110 mm blade equipped SV1 with its centrally located air inlet (unlike a four barrel) will only require a small amount of air redirection when adapted to fit onto a 4150 intake manifold.  When used along with our 7760 adapter, this combination offers a smooth transition of air flow to the opening of your 4150 intake manifold.  This combination will NOW show us the proper and expected increase in power.  This minimal redirection of air will also give us incredibly high rates of engine acceleration in the real world.

Granted our smaller 95mm blade equipped SV1 will bolt right onto your 4150 intake manifold (no adapters required) and will flow over 1100 cfm.  But if you need more air, we got you covered.  If want to achieve 1300 or more cfm of flow from your 4150 intake manifold, our NEW part # 7760 adapter and the bigger 110 mm blade equipped SV1 is the way to go.

Many 700 plus h.p. engine programs that utilize 4150 intake manifolds will show typical gains of 20-40 h.p. when switching from a 4150 series carb to an SV1 and our new 7760 adapter.

In tests using an 110mm blade equipped SV1 as a base, the 7760 adapter ALSO shows an average 5 h.p. increase in power over using a conventional 2" tall Dominator to 4150 type adapter.  The 7760 adapter is only 1" tall, so its shorter and makes more power too.  Its a win, win.

EDELBROCK RPM XTREME BB CHEVY CYLINDER HEADS

The new Edelbrock RPM Xtreme Cylinder Heads for 427 - 572 cid Big Block Chevy engines strive to provide race level performance in a streetable edelbrock_headsdesign envelope. CNC machined runners and combustion chambers achieve flow numbers nearly on par with the Victor series professional race head, while maintaining compatibility with off-the-shelf or even stock components including headers, pistons and rocker arms. The deck has been rolled 1.5° to improve the intake valve angle and consequently port velocity, while ensuring that the 2.25" (oval) / 2.30" (rect.) intake and 1.88" exhaust valves will still clear the factory valve reliefs. The exhaust flange has been raised less than 1/8" to improve flow around the short turn without causing conflicts with off-the-shelf 2" primary tube headers designed to work with stock heads. The 300cc (oval) / 325cc (rect.) intake ports and 110cc chamber volumes will ensure that the performance potential of these heads is sufficient for nearly any street driven application. The rectangular port heads are even available with a larger 118cc chamber to support forced induction and pump gas friendly compression ratios.

Rectangle port RPM XT heads #51559 testing on a 555 cubic inch big-block Chevy with 10.0:1 compression, hydraulic roller camshaft [248°/256° duration @ .050] and Edelbrock RPM XT EFI system produced 697 HP and 643 lbs./ft. of torque.

Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads are sand cast at our private foundry in San Jacinto, CA and are hand assembled at our Torrance, CA headquarters. They carry a one year warranty against any manufacturer defects, and are sold complete with valves, springs and guides pre-installed. Installation is the same as factory cylinder heads, making this an easy bolt-on upgrade with results you will feel on every pull.

DIAMOND’S NEW RANGE OF NITROUS PISTONS

Diamond’s new, comprehensive range of nitrous pistons comes with all the bells and whistles.

Obviously, they are not designed to compete on price with entry-level conventional pistons. However, for those who need an entry-level piston today but may be considering adding nitrous or forced induction later, choosing the nitrous piston now might be the wiser plan.
   
The essential differences between the two are material type; the thicknesses of the crown, wall, skirt, and piston pin; the provision of gas ports; the depth of the top ringland, and the materials of which the top ring and oil control rings are made.
   
Though visually indistinguishable, Diamond’s conventional piston is made of 4032 aluminum while its nitrous counterpart is forged from 2618, a superior material when subjected to the higher cylinder pressures and temperatures of nitrous oxide. The differences in thickness of piston crowns, walls, skirts, and piston pins is more obvious—often ranging from 33 to 53 percent greater mass for nitrous use. Piston pins destined for nitrous engines are made of premium tool steel, H-13, rather than alloy steel, 8620, a favorite in naturally aspirated engines. Moreover, nitrous pistons are often endowed with a stiffening rib under each pin bore to fortify the skirts.
   
An important feature of a nitrous piston that doesn’t usually appear on a conventional street-strip piston is the adoption of gas ports. Characterized by a circle of small-bore holes, they penetrate to the depths of the first ring groove from the piston crown. Their purpose is to pressurize the inner edge of the top ring, forcing it out and making a tight seal on the cylinder wall.
   
Like the conventional piston, its nitrous mate uses a three-ring pack, but the top ring on the Diamond nitrous piston is placed further down from the piston crown (typically .300in compared with .200in conventional piston), to protect it from greater heat and higher pressures.
   
Finally, the top ring of a nitrous piston is often .020in thinner and .020in to .030in narrower and always made of a superior material than that of a naturally aspirated piston. Similarly the oil control ring has greater radial tension to prevent crankcase oil from entering the combustion chamber, particularly harmful to nitrous oxide engines.
